Emerald Azzura opens a new chapter of luxury tourism in Herceg Novi
Portonovi Marina has officially received permission to accommodate mini luxury cruisers up to 140 meters
The luxury mini cruiser Emerald Azzurra docked at Portonovi Marina, officially marking a new phase in the development of luxury and nautical tourism in Herceg Novi. This event represents the first arrival of an international mini passenger ship in the municipality’s history and comes after Portonovi Marina received official authorization to accommodate such vessels.
Guests were welcomed with a red carpet ceremony, accompanied by a traditional performance by the Đenovići local band and majorettes, after which they had the opportunity to enjoy an exclusive private tour of the resort.
The arrival of the Emerald Azzurra and the official opening of Portonovi Marina for international passenger traffic represents a historic moment for our town. Herceg Novi has always had the potential to become a luxury destination, and through our partnership with the Portonovi company, that potential is finally being realized. From the very beginning, Portonovi has been a strong partner and ally in the development of our municipality, and this new chapter—the arrival of luxury mini cruisers—adds further value to both tourism and the local economy. We expect that this new segment of our offering will create space for additional businesses and new jobs, especially in services aimed at high-spending guests," said the Mayor of Herceg Novi, Stevan Katić.
Portonovi Marina has officially received permission to accommodate mini luxury cruisers up to 140 meters in length and 200 passengers, enabling Herceg Novi to become, for the first time, a new point on the map of ultra-luxury cruise tourism in the Adriatic. We have successfully met all technical and safety requirements, certified our team, and provided infrastructure in accordance with ISPS standards. This season is just the beginning, and we expect full development starting in 2026," said Portonovi Marina Manager, Novica Radojičić.
The permit for accommodating mini luxury cruisers is the result of an extensive process of alignment with international regulations and safety standards. The process was conducted in accordance with the Rulebook on Conditions That Must Be Met by a Port Open for International Traffic. Following the application and presentation of the infrastructure, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Transport formed a commission that carried out an assessment and determined that the marina meets all technical and safety requirements. The Government of Montenegro then issued an official decision granting the marina the status of a port open to international passenger traffic.
During the process, a Security Assessment and Protection Plan were developed, and a Certificate of Compliance was obtained. Two staff members acquired the title of Port Security Officer, while all employees underwent proper security training, received assigned security duties, and obtained the appropriate certifications.
"The arrival of the Emerald Azzurra is not just another event—it is a confirmation that Portonovi is evolving as a visionary project redefining luxury tourism on the Adriatic coast. As the only ultra-luxury destination in this part of Europe, Portonovi is fully prepared to welcome high-profile clients and provide an experience that meets their expectations. This milestone is the result of the dedicated work of the entire team—from infrastructure to operational procedures and safety standards. Mini luxury cruisers naturally fit the profile of our destination—exclusive, discreet, and of the highest quality. We believe their presence will bring new energy to the local community, boost the economy, and further strengthen Portonovi’s image as a destination that continuously sets new standards," said Rašad Alijev, CEO of Portonovi.
Emerald Azzurra is a luxury superyacht cruiser, 110 meters long, built in 2022 for Emerald Cruises. It can accommodate up to 100 passengers in 50 cabins, most of which have private terraces. On board, guests can enjoy a restaurant, lounge, spa center, gym, sun deck, and a private marina platform for water activities. Its limited capacity and exclusive amenities offer a personalized and intimate cruising experience, making it ideal for carefully selected destinations such as Portonovi.
